East County Water Control District (ECWCD) preserves and protects water reserves through drainage, conservation, mitigation, navigational and water management practices in 70,000 acres of land in both Lehigh Acres and the western portion of Hendry County.
ECWCD currently maintains 311 miles of canals, 20 lakes, 360 culvert crossings, 22 bridges and 66 water control structures. ECWCD maintains 1298 preserve acres as well as 578 acres of Harns Marsh—a major retention/detention area.
PLEASE NOTE: Lehigh Acres – Parkdale Road Closure: Lee County DOT will be closing Parkdale Road between Joufrie Road and Claridge Circle beginning Thursday, April 30th, as the East County Water Control District (ECWCD) begins work on an essential culvert pipe replacement project. Lee County DOT will provide Variable Message Boards, the Maintenance of Traffic with a detour advising motorists of this road closure.The anticipated project completion date is May 22nd, 2015.
